Just plain lucky I think. Usually squirrels with any kind of white on them don’t last very long in nature. We had an albino squirrel last year but he only lasted the one year.
While we lived in Minnesota we had all kinds of colored squirrels, including partly white, partly gray ones. They seemed to be masters of escaping owls and hawks. This poem brought back the Munger Trail outside Carlton to me and Otter Creek. When we first moved there we were strangers and saw no birds or animals other than black bears, which greeted us on the first day there. Later on, as we became attuned to the land, the birds and animals were so numerous we always felt amazed. What a wonderful place to live!
I just can’t understand how people can live so far away from nature sometimes. It’s just beyond my comprehension. Even when I lived in the city, seeing the rare wildlife there always lifted me up.
Avoident behavior or just plain lucky…

My nephew in Kentucky has a white squirrel family who has lived in their pecan trees for fifteen years now. They are beautiful. Thanks for the post.
