I’m Russell Littlecreek, a member of the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians. Full Disclosure: I’m old enough to eat lunch at Elderly Nutrition and get the Senior discount at Great Escape theaters.
For what it’s worth, I have a B.A. in American Indian Studies and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Minnesota. I was also grandfathered in as a Social Worker for the State of Minnesota a long time ago. Among other things, I worked as a Psychiatric Assistant on Station 60 which was a general mental health inpatient unit at the University of Minnesota Hospitals and Clinics. I also provided mental health counseling for individuals, couples and families of all ages and races at the U of MN Community University Health Care Center in South Minneapolis for 11 years.
I consider myself an American Indian artist and craftsman. My specialties include pipestone, courting flute, and hand and powwow drum making, as well as being able to make all of the regalia you will find in the powwow ring and Anishinabeg crafts found in historical everyday life. I dabble in just about everything artsy.
I’m just as proud of my German and other ancestries. I belong to the Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Right now, I live off the reservation in the woods with my wife Laurie and our dog Belle. Although there are many parts to me which are equally important; this Red Lake part is the one I choose to write about here.
thank you for visiting my site and for your compliment! cheers, y

My brothers just went to see the musical ‘Book of Mormons’ what did you think of it? They said it was brilliant 5 out of 5 and took photographs of the Mormon church near the Natural History Museum in London because of the coincidence, and reading your blog makes that three mentions of your religion for me in one week.

Hi Charlotte,
Haven’t had the chance to see it yet! Hmmmm, maybe the Mormon thing is a nudge. Would you like to know more? 🙂

Hi Russell,
I just recently found out that Chief Maydwaygwanonind is my 4th great grandfather. (I was adopted) How do I find out information about my Native American family? I’ve been able to piece back info to him and him only. Thankfully there are many stories online about him but I’m very sad to have missed so much. Is it too late because so much of the oral history is gone? Thank you for your stories about him. It has brought me great joy!
